Two volumes, large octavo (9.75 x 6.75 inches; 250 x 175 mm.). lxiv, 1168; lxxi, [1], 1200 pages. In-text images, graphs, charts, all black and white. Blue cloth with black leather spine labels, spine stamped in gilt. All edges trimmed, speckled red. Spines somewhat toned; boards slightly faded around margins, hinges; small, faint scattered spots of white soiling. Some toning, tiny splashes of soiling to edges of text block. Near fine. Includes first announcement of Watson and Crick's discovery of the structure of DNA, "Molecular Structure of Nucleic Acids," p. 737, Volume 171. Later in the volume is Watson and Crick's "Genetical Implications of the Structure of Deoxyribonucleic Acid," p. 964. First and second volume also include articles by Rosalind Franklin, M. H. F. Wilkins, A. R. Stokes, H. R. Wilson and R. G. Gosling. Accompanied by letter from Watson, tucked into Volume 172 and dated 2006, explaining that he no longer signs any of his earlier work for collectors, citing concerns that people may use his signature for monetary gain.
