"One of the most remarkable volumes in the whole scientific literature" - Physicist Max Born

[Albert Einstein, contributor]. Annalen der Physik. Vierte Folge. Band 17. Leipzig: Verlag Von Johann Ambrosius Barth, 1905. First edition of this extremely important scientific journal, which contains the first appearance of three landmark articles by Albert Einstein. Octavo. viii, 1,020 pages. With five plates inserted throughout. Contemporary green cloth, spine lettered in gilt. Chemised in a green custom slipcase. Some browning to spine, some light rubbing to binding. A bright, fine copy.

Einstein's articles in this volume are: "Uber einen die Erzeugung und Verwandlung des Lichtes betreffenden heuristischen Gesichtspunk," pages 132-148; "Uber die von der molekularkinetischen Theorie der Warne geforderte Bewegung von in ruhenden Flussigkeiten suspendierten Teilchen," pages 549-560; and "Zur Elektrodynamik bewegte," pages 891-921. The articles contain Einstein's revolutionary paper on Special Relativity, his Nobel-Prize winning work on photons, and his demonstration of the existence of atoms through Brownian motion. In this volume of Annalen, Einstein changed physics forever, and cemented his reputation as the greatest physicist of the twentieth-century.
