    First edition. Two quarto volumes. Engraved frontispiece portrait of Pepys in volume one and engraved frontispiece view of Pepys' library in volume two. Engraved plates. Bound in in full calf with gilt decorated borders. Rebacked. Gilt lettered title labels and gilt devices on spine, gilt edged boards and inner dentelles, marbled endpapers and edges. Both front boards detached. Bindings rubbed, scuffed, and soiled. Corners bumped. Previous owner's ink name on the verso of both front fly-leaves. Newspaper clipping mounted on verso of the first volume's front fly-leaf. Offset on pages facing plates, including title pages. Foxing, heavier on plates and adjacent pages. Pages with light edge wear with few small corner bends. Very good.
