The True First Edition of Waiting for Godot

Samuel Beckett. En attendant Godot. Pièce en Deux Actes. Paris: Les Editions de Minuit, 1952. First appearance in print of Beckett's first play, trade issue (an issue of thirty-five large paper copies printed on vellum was issued simultaneously). Octavo. [168] pages. Original publisher's wrappers. Spine a bit toned and rubbed, with a small area soiled, minor rubbing to binding. Still, a bright and fine copy of this fragile item, unusual in this condition. Housed in cloth clamshell case.

    More Information:

Waiting for Godot (first performed in 1953) was recently voted the most significant English language play of the twentieth century in a British Royal National Theatre poll of eight hundred playwrights, actors, directors and journalists. The first edition in English (translated by Beckett himself) appeared two years after this French edition.
