Samuel A. Mitchell: A New Map of Texas, Oregon and California with the Regions Adjoining. Philadelphia. 1846. Colored lithograph folding map, measuring 21" x 22.75". Map folds down into rear of small 18mo book (Accompaniment to Mitchell's New Map of Texas, Oregon, and California, 46pp). The portion of the map tipped into the rear of the book has become neatly detached from the map. Map has a few closed tears, including one running twelve inches, with no significant paper loss. The book is bound in elaborately embossed morocco with gilt lettering and designs to the boards. Penciled sentiment to previous owner on front free endpaper. Evidence of a bookplate having been removed from front pastedown. Very good.

The final six pages of the book comprise the catalog of maps then available from Mitchell's Map Establishment, including this particular map. "It embraces the most recent published information extant, including that derived from Nicollet's Map of the Country between the Mississippi and the Missouri Rivers; Map of Oregon, by Capt. Wilkes, U.S.N.; Map of the Explorations of Oregon, California, &c., by Capt. Fremont, U.S.A.; the Congressional and other Maps of Texas; the latest Maps of Mexico, &c. The Emigrant Route to Oregon, via the South Pass, and the Traders' Route to Santa Fé, are distinctly traced, and all the Counties in Texas are shown on the Map."
