Sam Houston. Speech of Hon. Sam Houston, of Texas, Exposing the Malfeasance and Corruption of John Charles Watrous, Judge of the Federal Court in Texas, and of His Confederates. Delivered in the Senate of the United States, Feb. 3, 1859. New York: Pudney & Russell, 1860. First edition. 12mo. iii, 100 pp. Frontispiece. Green cloth over boards. Gilt lettering to front board. Corners bumped. Loss of one and one-half inches to the backstrip. Frontispiece detached. Half-title page loose. Title page reattached with tape. Overall very good.

A scathing speech in which Houston attacks Watrous, a federal judge and Texas land speculator (he was associated with the Peters Colony as an attorney), for fraud and judicial misconduct. In the front of the book are blurbs from newspapers concerning the speech. This from the American Flag: "The noble old hero took upon himself to vindicate the honor of his State . [...] Nobly and witheringly has he performed the task. He makes disclosures of the most startling character, and reads the letters of the parties in proof; he exposes the workings of a regularly organized company of speculators, in which Judge Watrous and some of our own acquaintances are conspicuous actors, and makes out a case conclusive and damning."
