    S[amuel] A[ugustus] Mitchell. No. 15 Map of Oregon and Upper California Engraved to Illustrate Mitchell's School and Family Geography. Philadelphia: S. A. Mitchell, circa 1846. Hand-colored. With "Upper or New California" extending to the Anahuac Mountains. California is not treated as part of the United States. Based on Fremont's map of 1845, this depicts the "Great Interior Basin of California" and the United States-Canadian boundary with the notation "Boundary of 1846". On the lower left corner is the inset of "Map of the Columbia Riber from the Cascades to the Pacific Ocean." In wonderful condition with minor offsetting, and a bit of creasing around margins. Visible area measures 8.25 x 10.75 inches, matted and framed to a measurement of 16 x 20 inches.
