    Description

Heinlein's First Future History Book, Signed

Robert A. Heinlein. The Man Who Sold the Moon. Chicago: Shasta Publishers, 1950.

First edition, first printing. Signed by the author on title page. Octavo. 288 pages. Illustrated endpapers. Introduction by John W. Campbell, Jr.

Publisher's quarter black cloth over gray boards with gilt spine titles. Modest rubbing with softly bumped corners. Offsetting to endpapers with small shadow on front free endpaper from label removal. Bookplate to verso of front free endpaper with some minor abrading to page. Lightly foxed fore-edge. Dust jacket is mildly toned with light wear along edges, primarily to head of spine. A very good copy.

This is the first of Heinlein's Future History Series that Shasta published between 1950 and 1953. These volumes collect the short stories Heinlein wrote that all fit into the same futuristic timeline. The Future History timeline is printed on the endpapers. Includes six stories, and a preface by Heinlein.

    Currey, p. 233.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
