Author's autograph edition limited to 500 hand-numbered copies, of which this is number 359, signed by the author and the publishers on the limitation page. Octavo. xv, 348 pages, with foldout map at the end. With 58 illustrations including an engraved portrait of Byrd after a pencil sketch by Brynjulf Strandenaes used as the frontispiece. On the front blue paste-down endpaper are mounted two fabric samples, under which is printed, "Above is a portion of the fabric (showing both sides) which covered the plane Josephine Ford on her historic flight over the North Pole on May 9th, 1926 piloted by Commander Richard E. Byrd". Publisher's original three-quarter blue cloth over paper covered boards with gilt rules and lettered in gilt. Light wear to corners, else about fine.
