    Rex Stout. The League of Frightened Men. New York: Farrar & Rinehart, Inc., [1935]. First edition. Octavo (7.625 x 5.25 inches; 194 x 133 mm.). [2, half title ("Books by Rex Stout" on verso)], [2, title (copyright on verso)], 308 pages. Original black cloth lettered in gilt on front cover and spine. Top edge stained light green (faded). Slightly skewed; binding a little rubbed; head of spine softened; slight vertical crease down spine; gilt on spine dulled. Endpapers somewhat browned and foxed. Slight diagonal crease in the gutter margin from the top edge of the center two leaves of a few gatherings, occasionally affecting a letter or two; slight diagonal crease from lower edge of pages 69/70, just affecting one letter in the last line on each page; several leaves with very slight crinkle or indentation in the lower margin. A few mostly faint marginal stains or spots; very occasional light foxing; tiny black dot at lower edge of a few pages. In the original scarce color pictorial dust jacket by Winifred Earl Lefferts. Unclipped, with "Net, $2.00" price on front flap. Jacket with an old tape repair on verso at top of rear panel and spine fold, otherwise totally unrestored; browned at edges and folds, with some light foxing, mainly visible on the verso; small pieces missing at bottom edge of rear panel, foot of spine, and top and bottom of front flap fold; several edge chips and tears, none affecting any lettering; small hole in rear flap fold; rear panel soiled. A very good copy in the scarce and fragile dust jacket. Housed in a custom cloth clamshell case. The second Nero Wolfe mystery. Townsend A11b (published 14 August 1935). A Haycraft-Queen Cornerstone. The basis for the 1937 film directed by Alfred E. Green and starring Walter Connolly, Lionel Stander, and Eduardo Ciannelli. From the KoKo Collection.
