Prince, John: A DISCOURSE, DELIVERED AT SALEM, ON THE DAY OF THE NATIONAL FAST, MAY 9, 1798; APPOINTED BY PRESIDENT ADAMS, ON ACCOUNT OF THE DIFFICULTIES SUBSISTING BETWEEN THE UNITED STATES AND FRANCE. SECOND EDITION. Boston: 1798. (2), (2), 30pp. Disbound, with half title (loose). Scattered foxing and light soil, Good+ to Very Good. The second edition, the first having been published earlier in the same year. This clergyman agrees that the Constitution is based on natural rights, and that the American government's representative and federal attributes, with its checks and balances, is "the most free and perfect system that can be devised for man in this state of his existence." By contrast, the European "revolutions in government...afford melancholy proofs, that the great body of the people do not always gain the end at which they aim by them." He urges avoidance of party spirit and of all foreign influence. Evans 34415.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
