    More Information:

Patrick, John (bap. 1632, d. 1695), Church of England clergyman and religious controversialist. "He was the younger brother of Simon Patrick, bishop of Ely... In November 1671 he asked his brother to use his interest to procure him the post of preacher at Charterhouse, London, which he did successfully, Patrick being chosen on 8 December... At Charterhouse Patrick began to publish his works, beginning with his Reflexions upon the Devotions of the Roman Church (1674)... After the Revolution of 1688, with his brother now bishop of Chichester, on 28 July 1690 Patrick was collated precentor of that diocese. Presumably because of his publications defending the Church of England, Archbishop Tillotson made him DD by Lambeth decree in 1691." This is, in part, a response to Serenus Cressy's (1605-1674) Church-History of Brittany from the Beginning of Christianity to the Norman Conquest.
