    Description

Early Edition of a Collection of Mormon Pamphlets

Orson Pratt. A Series of Pamphlets. Liverpool: Franklin D. Richards, 1851.

Early edition. Octavo. Eighteen pamphlets and two discussions. Two frontispieces and one fold-out graphic plate.

Half bound in leather, rebacked with original spine laid down. Some dampstaining to portraits and to edges of preliminaries. Rear folded plate of the "Six Metallic Plates" torn but intact. Light foxing to edges. Hinges expertly reinforced. Owner's signature on front pastedown. A very good copy.

Pratt served as one of the Twelve Apostles under Joseph Smith. While on missions in the British Isles, he published An Interesting Account of Several Remarkable Visions, the first text to outline Smith's First Vision. After returning, Pratt was the subject of rumors and gossip as he had issues with plural marriage, especially after having accused Smith of seducing his own wife. He was excommunicated and later re-baptized shortly afterwards. During his life, Pratt himself had seven wives and forty-five children. Renowned for his analysis and writing, he produced a number of pamphlets and brochures, some of which where collected and published as this single volume.
