    Calvin Stowe's Preface includes a biography of Lowth, a summary of his achievements, and an explanation that Stowe has adapted the work "to the existing state of biblical learning, and make it as useful as possible to the American scholar." Stowe was married in 1836 to Harriet Beecher. This is the second American edition of Lowth's Lectures, but the first with Stowe's Notes.
