Joseph Smith. The Book of Mormon. Translated by Joseph Smith, Jr. Nauvoo, Ill: Printed by Robinson and Smith, Stereotyped by Shepard and Stearns ... Cincinnati, Ohio, 1840. Third edition. Twelvemo in sixes (5.625 x 3.5 inches; 143 x 88 mm.). 571, [2, witness testimony], [1, blank] pages (note: pages 1 and 2 are blank); final leaf (blank) excised. Contemporary sheep, spine ruled in gilt with a gilt-lettered leather label; all edges trimmed; plain endpapers, flyleaves. Rear joint cracked; front joint starting (only just on at the upper edge, but the bottom is well on its way); short tear or possible biopredation of about one-half of one inch in the second compartment from the bottom starting at the rear joint with the backstrip lifting from that point to the foot of the spine; very light creasing to the interior of the backstrip, particularly noticeable on the label; covers with some minor scuffing; board edges, spine ends and corners worn with slight loss of leather; corners bumped. Page edges soiled; endpapers foxed with edges discolored from leather. Preliminary blank with a large section missing from the bottom corner, smaller area of loss on the title-leaf with a diagonal tear across the bottom corner (about three-quarters of one inch wide at the base and two and one-quarter inches tall) with no loss of text; text thoroughly foxed and browned, though the pages are still supple, edges somewhat worn, corners creased throughout, occasional short closed tear; dampstain starting in the gutter margin around the 38th signature, growing until a large but faint tidemark covers about two-thirds of the text for the final four gatherings. A very good copy, apparently completely unsophisticated. Howes S623. Sabin 83040.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
