[Mormons]. Journal of Discourses by Brigham Young [Later John Taylor], President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His Two Counsellors, The Twelve Apostles, and Others. Liverpool: F. D. and S. W. Richards, Albert Carrington, et al., 1854-1886. First edition of this set, complete in twenty-six octavo volumes (various sizes). Bound in various contemporary and later bindings. Several volumes with general wear, bookplates or ownership markings. Some hinges starting or cracking. Still, a very good example of this important record of sermons and essays by church authorities. Flake and Draper 4504.

This Journal was the brainchild of Brigham Young's stenographer, George D. Watt, who felt that Young's sermons and other church essays be assembled and published. Watt recorded material for the first four volumes himself. This set is considered to be an excellent source of Church of Latter-Day Saints teachings ("The Journal of Discourses deservedly ranks as one of the standard works of the Church, and every right-minded Saint will certainly welcome with joy every Number as it comes forth from the press as an additional reflector of 'the light that shines from Zion's hill.'" - Apostle George Q. Cannon, 1861).
