[Charlotte Guillard]. John Fisher. Assertionis Lutheranae confutatio, juxta verum ac etiam originalem archetypum, ... Paris: Guillard, 1545.

    More Information:

[Charlotte Guillard]. John Fisher, Bishop of Rochester. Assertionis Lutheranae confutatio, juxta verum ac etiam originalem archetypum, nunc adunguem diligentissime recognita. Paris: Carolam Guillard, 1545.

Octavo. 360 leaves. Decorated woodcut initials. Vellum, rippled, lightly soiled, small surface hole in front cover, joints starting, ink title to spine, blue speckled edges, endpapers and headbands renewed, small modern bookseller labels on front and back pastedowns, two old library stamps to title page, small holes from biopredation (some repaired) in first few leaves, including title page, and last few leaves, occasional browning, minor soiling, text block has small margins and was most likely trimmed, else in very good condition. From the Krown & Spellman Collection.

Living not only in the Renaissance, but also in the time of the Reformation, the French printer Charlotte Guillard found herself occasionally publishing anti-Protestant works. As an example see John Fisher's 1545 volume against Martin Luther, Assertionis Lutheranae confutation.
