Raymond Radiguet, LES JOUES EN FEU.
Paris: François Bernourd, 1920 [July 12, 1920]. First edition. Custom full blue morocco binding, marbled end papers, with original paper cover, printed in red and black, bound in the back of the book. Number 44 of 89 printed copies on laid paper (verge d'Arches). Includes four engravings by the painter, illustrator, and theatre designer Jean Hugo (1894-1984). Fine. Octavo (7.25" x 10.5"), 34 unnumbered pages (11 blank), plus four engravings tipped and the original paper wrapper tipped in. A rare first edition of the first collection of Radiguet's poems. Radiguet (1903-1923), who wrote one of the most novels in post-war French literature (Le Diable au corps), was a close friend of Jean Hugo, and their friendship resulted in Hugo producing the engravings for this work. In 1920, the same year as this collection of poems was issued, Radiguet founded with Jean Cocteau the magazine Le Coq. Radiguet died of typhoid fever three years later.
