DescriptionRare Original Civil War Document Signed by 42 Officers and Men of the Tallahassee Guards, January 10, 1861. Three pages, 7.5" x 11.75", dated January 10, 1861. What appears to be a legal document seeking payment from the Confederate States of America, it reads in part: "to demand and receive from the Government of the Confederate States of America or any Pay Masters or officer thereof appointed to pay off the members of the Tallahassee Guards and we the said members thereof the amount of pay that shall be due and owing to us or that shall accrue of become due or be payable to us as members of the afore said Tallahassee Guards." In researching a few names listed it appears many of the men went on to serve in the Florida 2nd Cavalry later in the war. Likely the only roster of the Tallahassee Guards extant and thus important and worthy of extensive research.
Condition: Toned with the usual smoothed fold creases, some splits in the folds and one small areas of loss on the terminal page. Some offsetting from the bold signatures on the last page affecting the text of the recto. From the A.D. Andrews Collection of Southern and Natural History
