Lusignano's Rare History of the Island of Cyprus Bound with His Equally Rare Genealogy of the Noble Families of Jerusalem, Cyprus and Armenia

    R. Père F. Estienne de Lusignan [Bishop Stefano di Lusignano]. Description de Toute l'Isle de Cypre, et des Roys, Princes, et Seigneurs, tant Payens que Chrestiens, qui ont commandé en icelle... Paris: Chez Guillaume Chaudiere, 1580. First French edition of this rare history. [Bound With]: R. Père F. Estienne de Lusignan [Bishop Stefano di Lusignano]. Histoire Contenant une Sommaire Description des Genealogies, Alliances, & gestes de tous les Princes & grans Seigneurs... Royames Hierusalem, Cypre, Armenie, & lieux circonvoisins. Paris: Chez Guillaume Chaudiere, 1579. First French edition. Two quarto volumes bound in one. Approximately 8.5 x 7.75 inches. [x], 292, [xviii]; [iv], 72 folios. Contemporary limp vellum. Remnant of ink title on spine, two (of four) vellum ties still present, some inoffensive wear and soiling to binding. Some neat ink notations from the previous owner on the first few and last few blank leaves (possibly by Laurent de Prunier, baron de Saint-André of Virieu or someone from his family, with the armorial bookplate of that noble family). Someone has made a neat ink mark on the "0" on the publication date on the title-page, making it appear to be a "9". Front pastedown torn (yet binding is structurally solid), in the first title, fol. 77 has a short marginal tear, fol. 242 is missing the lower corner, and in the second title, fol. 25 is missing the lower corner, no loss to any leaves. A few gutters a bit overopened. Still, a fine copy of these rare titles. These French editions were translated and expanded from the original Italian (Chorograffia, 1573), whilst Lusignano was at the French court. Brunet III, 1239. From the collection of a gentleman of New York.
