    Description

    R. Austin Freeman. Sketchbook. [London?: unpublished sketches, July 1912-November 1913]. Original holograph pencil sketches and notes. Small sketchbook in tan cloth-covered boards (8.5 x 5.125 inches; 216 x 130 mm.). Approximately sixty leaves, final twenty blanks, with three other loose sketches laid in. Sketches on rectos only. Binding a bit worn along edges; cloth somewhat rubbed and soiled from handling with a faint tidemark toward top of front board; corners bumped with boards starting to show through cloth; elastic band clipped away with remaining stubs fraying a bit. Edges of text block lightly toned with slight rippling along fore-edge. Top and bottom edge of first laid-in sketch toned; mild thumbsoiling, rippling and offsetting throughout; stationer's ticket at front pastedown. Very good. Freeman was a Queen's Quorum and Haycraft Queen Cornerstone author most renowned for his mysteries featuring Dr. John Evelyn Thorndyke.
