    R. Austin Freeman. Notebook. [London?: unpublished notes, circa 1931]. Original holograph notes for a "NEW Book," identified as "Pontifex, Son & Thorndyke" on first page. Saddle-stitched ruled notebook with marbled paperboard wrappers (8 x 6.375 inches; 202 x 164 mm.). Thirty-two leaves, partially foliated; majority of leaves with holograph notes including outlines, summaries, and word counts; text on rectos only in black, maroon, and dark green ink. A bit of rubbing and edge wear to wrappers; mild toning; slight loss to surface layer of marbled paper at center fold. Normal light age toning to leaves; recto of first leaf and verso of last slightly rubbed from exposure to wrappers; occasional light dimpling toward fore-edge from handling; stitching at center slightly yellowed with a bit of foxing. Very good. The novel based upon these notes, Pontifex, Son and Thorndyke, was published in London by Hodder & Stoughton in 1931.
