    More Information: After spending his youth in a troubled Armenia, Yousuf Karsh (1908-2002) immigrated to Canada with his uncle George Nakash and then served an apprenticeship with John H. Garo, the portrait photographer. Karsh started his professional career in Ottowa, Canada in 1932, photographing politicians and dignitaries. His international acclaim would come in 1941 after photographing Winston Churchill, and his career continued to gather steam and attention until his retirement in 1992.
