Inscribed by Henri Cartier-Bresson to His Wife

Henri Cartier-Bresson. The Europeans. New York: Simon and Schuster, [1955]. First American edition. Presentation copy, inscribed by Cartier-Bresson at a later date on the half-title: "For Martine/salutations/Henri Cartier Bresson". Folio. [136] pages. Illustrated with 114 photographs by Cartier-Bresson. Pictorial boards after a design by Joan Miro, original acetate dust jacket. With the pamphlet of Captions laid-in. Acetate jacket chipped with some creased tears and some wear, headcap of book bumped, some rubbing and mild wear and soiling to book's extremities. Still, a near fine copy of this book, with an excellent personal association. Cartier-Bresson's second wife, Martine Franck (Belgian, 1938-2012, married to Cartier-Bresson from 1970 until his death in 2004) was an important and honored documentary photographer in her own right.
