Publisher's blue cloth, spine and front board lettered and ruled in green, front board ruled in blind; top edge stained green; map endpapers; in original dust jacket. Very gentle sloping of the spine; spine ends and corners lightly worn. Topstain dulled; light soiling to fore-edge of text block; remnants of adhesive to lower margin of front endpaper; faint offsetting to copyright and disclaimer pages from laid in material since removed. Dust jacket spine panel faintly faded; edges and folds somewhat worn with some minor chipping to spine ends and fold edges; front panel rubbed with some marginal foxing; faint soiling to rear panel; light creasing; two short closed tears to lower edge of front panel with tape repairs applied to verso, tape also at spine ends. A near fine copy in a very good, and quite uncommon, dust jacket. Housed in a custom clamshell case. A Haycraft-Queen Cornerstone. The author's debut novel and the first to feature the "Codfish Sherlock," Asey Mayo. Ex-Lawrence Sullivan, with his bookplate affixed to the clamshell case, from his sale. From the KoKo Collection.
