First Irish Edition of Landmark Anarchist Philosophical Work

William Godwin. An Enquiry Concerning Political Justice. And Its Influence on General Virtue and Happiness. Dublin: Luke White, 1793. First Irish edition, published in the same year as British first. This is the principle work of political philosophy by England's primary radical, husband to Mary Wollstonecraft and the father of Mary Shelley. Two octavo volumes. xiii [21] 411 pages; [4] [19]424 pages. Tasteful modern quarter-leather binding with marbled paper boards, titles stamped in gilt on the spine. Preliminary leaves, half-title and title page of volume one torn, with some paper loss though not affecting text, general light discoloration to pages with dampstains to the contents and concluding pages, faint foxing throughout. Volume two's pages are much brighter though scant holographic brackets in pen and pencil are present. Both volumes' page ends thumb-soiled. Previous owner signatures. Very good.
