A Group of Seventeen Issues of One of the Greatest Radical Magazines in America

[Max Eastman, Floyd Dell and Robert Minor, editors]. The Liberator. New York: Liberator Publishing, Co., Workers Party of America, 1918-1924. First editions of this beautifully produced magazine. This collection of 17 numbers includes August, October, November and December from 1918; January, April, August and September from 1919; January, February, May, June, July and August from 1920; and January, April and August from 1921. Each issue in original pictorial wrappers. Toned, the usual wear, some issues creased, soiled, split or with edge tears. Still, a very good collection of this beautifully-produced magazine. From the collection of Zita Books. This monthly Socialist magazine was established by Max Eastman and his sister Crystal in 1918, to continue the work of the defunct magazine, The Masses, shut down by the government due to war regulations. It had first rate international news, as reported by John Reed (founder of the Communist Labor Party), Robert Minor, Hiram K. Moderwell, and others. It had literary contributions by E. E. Cummings, John Dos Passos, Ernest Hemingway, and others. But it was known for its beautiful artwork (including fine full-color cover art) by Art Young, Boardman Robinson, William Gropper, Fred Ellis, and others.
