Paul Cezanne. Autograph Letter Signed. "P. Cezanne." Two pages (of a bifolium) in French, 4.5" x 7", Paris; January 13, 1897.
In this letter addressed to fellow artist Antoine Guillemet, Cezanne mentions he has been bedridden for 15 days due to a lingering flu, and just received Guillemet's letter, asking to meet, the day before. He is very sorry he was not present at his studio when Guillemet passed by and deeply upset at the circumstances preventing him from conducting his business as usual.

Paul Cézanne (1839-1906) was a French artist and Post-Impressionist painter whose work laid the foundations of the transition from the 19th-century conception of artistic endeavor to a new and radically different world of art in the 20th century.

Jean-Baptiste-Antoine Guillemet (1843-1918) was a French landscape painter and was one of the first 19th century artists to paint modern life. He was a pivotal figure in the transition from Realism to Impressionism.

Condition: The letter has a horizontal fold but otherwise is very good.
