Patrick Leigh Fermor. A Time to Keep Silence. London: The Queen Anne Press, 1953. First edition, one of 50 numbered copies signed by the author, out of a total edition of 550 (this being number "45"). Octavo. [xviii], 92, [2, blank], [1, colophon], [5, blank] pages. Publisher's deluxe binding of full indigo levant morocco, spine lettered in gilt and with the Queen Anne Press medallion in gilt in compartments, five raised bands, top edge gilt, others uncut. A bright, fine copy of this very rare, desirable item.

Patrick Leigh Fermor (1915-2011, best known as "Paddy Fermor"), was a soldier, journalist, and writer, widely regarded as "Britain's greatest living travel writer" (Smith, The Guardian, March 2, 2007). This, his most scarce and desirable title (about Monks in Europe) was printed at the Queen Anne Press, which was owned by Fermor's friend, Ian Fleming (who would write the James Bond novels, the first of which, Casino Royale, would be published the same year as this book by Fermor; additionally, Fermor's first book, The Traveller's Tree (1950) was quoted extensively by Fleming in Live and Let Die (1954)).

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
