Pat Conroy. The Boo. Verona, VA: McLure Press, [1970]. First edition, first printing stated on the copyright page. Signed and dated "Dec. 17th, 1970" by the author and signed and inscribed by "The Boo," Lt. Colonel T. N. Courvoisie, to the front free endpaper, "With best regards / The BOO / TN Courvoisie / Lt Col USA Retd." Octavo. 174 pages. Illustrated with in-text illustrations and black and white photographs reprinted from the 1964 edition of The Sphinx, The Citadel yearbook developed by cadets. Publisher's light blue cloth stamped in white; original illustrated dust jacket. Head and foot of spine just pushed. White endpapers. Internally clean and tight, all edges trimmed. Dust jacket unclipped ($4.50); minor edgewear, back panel lightly rubbed. With a "Boo's Immortals" card laid in, listing those who contributed to the creation of the Courvoisie Scholarship Fund. Near fine or better.

A gorgeous copy of this author's scarce first book, a tribute to a beloved Commander of Cadets at The Citadel, an esteemed military college in Charleston, S.C. and the author's alma mater. Though this specific title has not been adapted to film, Conroy's time at the Citadel and "The Boo" also served as the inspiration for Conroy's later novel, The Lords of Discipline, which was adapted to film by Franc Roddam in 1980.
