DescriptionWar of 1812 Handwritten Manuscript. 7" x 11", one page, handwritten manuscript of the events concerning the establishment of a Liberty Pole. The manuscript is unsigned and undated. It reads in part, "The following lines occasioned by the erecting a Liberty Pole near New Chester Meeting House- While we view the modern Liberty Pole it excites sensations which we can't control of ambitious measures, much disputed here and there. Which occasioned War in this western hemisphere. But let no material points now be here contended, seeing as we unite to celebrate all hostilities ended." It is a very touching and sentimental speech. The handwriting is very beautiful.
The condition of the manuscript is fine; usual folds are present; paper has become yellow and brittle from acid degradation; several areas of foxing near the upper edge.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.View More Testimonials
