    From Streeter: "The letter of Anson Jones, dated November 10, 1845, transmitting the Constitution "with the proper evidence of its adoption" and President Polk's message of December 9, sending it to the House, is followed by: the text of the Constitution; the ordinance adopted on July 4, by the Texas constitutional convention, reciting the entire text of the annexation resolution approved by President Tyler on March 1, 1845; and the assent of the convention to its first and second sections; certificate by Anson Jones calling for state elections as required by the Constitution; certificate of the Secretary of State of Texas dated November 10, 1845, that at the election held October 13, 1845, 4254 votes were polled for annexation and 267 were against it; and copy of the joint resolution presented in the House by Stephen A. Douglas for the Committee on Territories reciting, "That the State of Texas shall be one, and is hereby declared to be one, of the United States of America, and admitted into the Union on an equal footing with the original states, in all respects whatever."
