    Description

[Darwin] The Structure and Distribution of Coral Reefs. An analysis, communicated by Colonel Jackson, published in the Journal of the Royal Geographical Society of London (London: John Murray, 1842), twelfth volume, pages 115-120. The three parts of Darwin's Geology of the Voyage of the Beagle were published separately over a period of five years but intended as parts of one work. The first book, published in 1842, is a landmark volume about coral reefs and this present item is a review of that first edition as published in the Royal Geographical Society's Journal. The review is very positive and concludes, in part, "...we can safely say that we have rarely met with a work every way so satisfactory... we wait with great impatience the works promised by the same talented naturalist on Volcanic Islands and on South America." Bound in modern blue wraps, fine condition.
