First English edition, deluxe issue, limited to 250 copies, of which this is number forty-three, and signed by the author. Quarto (8.25 x 6.75 inches; 209 x 171 mm.). vii, [viii], 334. Contemporary half red morocco over red cloth; spine in six sections lettered and decorated in gilt with five raised bands; top edge gilt; marbled endpapers. Binding mildly edgeworn and thumbsoiled; joints stressed and somewhat worn; spine slightly darkened; cloth nicked at rear board near fore edge. Pages only a shade toned; very sparse scattered foxing. Still, near fine. An attractive copy of this landmark work of literature. From the Collection of Daniel J. King.
