Fanny Maitland. [Album of sixteen original watercolors of insects or plants]. [Place of production not identified: circa 1850's]. Various image sizes, generally around 14 x 6 inches. Each watercolor is matted, and mounted into a contemporary folio album (album is approximately 20 x 12 inches; 512 x 307 mm.) Fifteen of sixteen of the watercolors are signed by the artist; two are dated "AP 26" or "May 3". These dated sheets have neat pencil notes, presumably by Maitland. Contemporary full red morocco, boards decoratively ruled in gilt and black, spine ruled in gilt and black, three raised bands, all edges gilt, white silk moiré endleaves. Binding worn and soiled, the hinge facing the first watercolor (which is loose) is cracked, a few other watercolors are loose. Some toning, occasional soiling to mats, a few watercolors with minor soiling. An excellent collection of lovely watercolors.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
