    Eugène Delacroix. Signed Pencil Drawing. "E.D." Original Pencil (Graphite) drawing ["La Présentation au Temple" and "Étude De Femme"], one page on plain white paper, 9" x 7.75" [visible image size], n.p.; n.d. Signed by Delacroix in lower right in faint red ink or pencil. Later explanatory labels on rear of frame. The image depicts the kneeling Virgin Mary presenting the infant Jesus to a bearded cleric, with a less detailed image of a woman. On one of the labels on the verso of frame is typed the following statement: "Exposition Sous Le Second Empire Grand Magasins Du Louvre Mars-avril 1943," indicating that this drawing was on view at the Louvre during the Nazi occupation as part of a larger exhibition.
    Ferdinand Victor Eugène Delacroix (1798-1863) was a French Romantic artist regarded from the outset of his career as the leader of the French Romantic School.
    Condition: Paper toned and foxed. Matted, framed and glazed; otherwise good.
