Overall a lovely copy with illustrations. Vatican stamp on title page. Pope Saint Gregory I or Gregory the Great (540-604) was also known as Gregory Diagolus (the Dialogist) because of his writings. He was the first pope from a monastic background and is considered a Doctor of the Church, the true founder of the Early Medieval papacy. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection.
