[Paul Robeson, former owner]. Charles E. Kany and Charles Speroni. Spoken Italian For Travelers and Tourists. Boston: [1946]. First trade edition. Octavo. 210 pages. With numerous ink notations, presumably by Robeson throughout. Publisher's original green cloth with titles in red. Moderate to heavy wear at the extremities with significant soiling to the boards from honest use. Good condition. Housed in a beautiful custom clamshell case. With Paul Robeson's inscription to his brother on the front free endpaper: "Very good book / P. Robeson / 155 W. 136th St. / To Rev. B. C. Robeson / Please Return." Robeson may have been brushing up on his Italian to attend a meeting of the Italian National Council of Peace Partisans, scheduled to be held in Rome in 1950. The meeting was canceled and eventually held in Poland.
