    Book I: Third Impression, Corrected and Enlarged. Book II: First edition. Twelvemo. Each book is 246 pages, respectively.

    Leather spine over marbled vellum boards with gilt spine lettering. Moderate wear on binding with bumps and some cracking. Mild to moderate toning in the paper. Overall very good condition.

    Full titles: A New World. The First Book. The Discovery of a New World. Or, A Discourse Tending to Prove, That 'tis Probable There May Be Another Habitable World in the Moone. With a Discourse Concerning the Possibility of a Passage Thither and The Second Book, A Discourse Concerning a New Planet. Tending to prove, That 'tis Probable Our Earth is one of the Planets.

    English clergyman John Wilkins (1614-1672) was married to Oliver Cromwell's sister, Robina. He is the only person in history to have headed colleges at both Oxford and Cambridge. Interested in mathematics and astronomy, he followed theses volume on "the moone" (first published in 1638) and a "new planet" with other works on cryptography and the development of a universal language.
