    One Hundred and Ten Color Plates from
    Latham's History of Birds

    John Latham. A General History of Birds. Winchester: Printed by Jacob and Johnson, for the Author, 1821-1823, 1928. Second edition. Includes first six volumes from a set of ten, and index volume. One hundred and nine hand-colored etched plates with one additional plate in the sixth volume. Each book with cartouche bookplate on front free endpaper and small "H. Pinnock, Esq." bookplate on either the front pastedown or verso of front free endpaper. Bound in half brown leather over patterned paper covered boards. Volumes III, IV, V, VI, and Index are rebacked with original spines and leather title labels laid on top. Boards and spines rubbed, chipped, leather lightly crazed; first and second volume with cracked joints and hinges; pencil numbers and marks on cartouche bookplates, few other holograph pencil annotations, foxing and browning to various degrees, bleedthrough on some plates from print on adjacent text pages, several plates lacking tissue guards, occasional soiling and paper indentations; otherwise in good to very good condition.
