Complete with 500 hand-colored lithographed plates after Audubon, printed by J.T. Bowen. Half titles present. Wood-engraved anatomical illustrations within the text. With original tissue guards. Publisher's brown morocco with five raised bands, lettered in gilt and decorated and ruled in gilt; all edges gilt; marbled endpapers. Spines dulled; edges rubbed; several nicks at spine; some hinges cracked and joints worn; boards of two volumes reattached using Japanese tissue, upper edge of repair separating. Gift inscription at front free endpaper of each volume; scattered spots of foxing. Very good. An attractive set of this important work. Sabin 2365.
