Havell & Son, [n.d., ca. 1827]. Original hand-colored etched plate from the 1827 double-elephant folio edition of John James Audubon's The Birds of America. Approximate plate size: 37.5 x 25 inches. Plate is toned and foxed, with some dampstaining near top. Mounted onto board (upper corner of board missing). A fair plate. From the estate of Scott and Stuart Gentling.

    More Information:

    A fine image of two Stanley Hawks and a Bluebird [?] from the greatest illustrated natural history work to be produced in America during the nineteenth century. This plate was taken after Audubon's original life-size watercolor drawing. This plate has not been examined out of the frame. (It is matted, framed and glazed.)
