    John James Audubon. Jager. Lestris Pomarina. No. 51. Plate CCLII. Drawn from Nature by J. J. Audubon. London: Engraved, Printed and Coloured by R. Havell, 1835. Original hand-colored etched plate from the 1827-1838 double-elephant folio edition of John James Audubon's The Birds of America. Approximate sheet size: 25 x 38 inches. Mild toning, very faint dampstaining in upper left corner, tape residue on verso at upper edge. Still, a near fine plate. From the estate of Scott and Stuart Gentling.

    More Information:

    A fine image of a Jager and an oyster shell from the greatest illustrated natural history work to be produced in America during the nineteenth century. This plate was taken after Audubon's original life-size watercolor drawing. This plate has not been examined out of the frame. (It is matted, framed and glazed.) Backing of frame is a bit loose.
