Three volumes, large octavo in fours (10.125 x 7.875 inches; 258 x 175 mm.). viii, 383, [1]; [4], 334, [2]; [2], v, [1], 348 pages. 155 full-color plates based on original drawings from life by Audubon. Majority engraved by W. E. Hitchcock, printed and colored by J. T. Bowen of Philadelphia. Some early plates in the first volume engraved by R. Trembly, printed by Nagel & Weingærtner. Most with tissue inserts. Recent brown quarter-leather with marbled paper-covered boards; spine stamped in gilt with five raised bands. All edges trimmed and speckled. Minor shelf wear at extremities of binding. Regular dust soiling and toning to edges of text block. Interior moderately foxed, pages somewhat darkened, with overall mild occasional offsetting onto tissue, scattered marginal thumbsoiling. Plate CXLIX upside down. Very good. Sabin 2368.
