John Cassin. Illustrations of the Birds of California, Texas, Oregon, British and Russian America. Philadelphia: J. P. Lippincott, 1856. First edition in book form of 10 parts issued between 1853-1855. Quarto (10.25 x 7.125 inches; 260 x 180 mm). Parts paginated continuously [i-iii], iv-viii, 1-298 pages. Illustrated with 50 color lithographed plates, five in each part, with tissue guards. Half red leather custom binding with marbled paper cover, original wrappers of parts are bound in; some minor wear and foxing. Very good. A nice copy of Cassin's work, in which he fully describes 50 species of birds and many others briefly treated. Zimmer 1: 124; Nissen IVB 173.
