Folio (approximately 14.375 x 9 inches). [xii], 154, [1-]56 pages. Twenty-nine full-page hand-colored plates by C. Crucius and C. L. Crucius. Full speckled calf, gilt spine with title labels and floral devices in compartments, all edges stained red. Front hinge broken, with board hanging on by cords. Boards scuffed and worn, with heavy wear to extremities; bottom three inches of spine missing. Interior foxed and tone. Plates with toning and foxing in image area. Word marked out in ink on vignette title page. A better than good copy. Title translated into English: "Description of the grasses together with their illustrations after nature." The scarce first edition of Schreber's classic work on grasses.
