    Description

Wilkie Collins. The Legacy of Cain. London: 1889. First edition.
Wilkie Collins. The Legacy of Cain. London: Chatto & Windus, 1889. First edition. Three volumes. Octavo. viii, 289, [1]; vi, 281, [1], 32 [publisher's ads]; vi, 263, [1] pages. Publisher's blue cloth, spines lettered in gilt and ruled in red and dark blue, fronts decoratively stamped in red and dark blue; all text block edges trimmed. Spine ends pushed and worn, a few with cloth starting to split; backstrips rubbed and dulled just a shade; wear at joints, some down to boards, with splitting starting at a couple of ends; boards rubbed with a moderate amount of soiling; edges and corners worn and bumped, cloth nicked or splitting in a few places, with boards exposed. Text block edges a bit dulled with age, and slightly stained; top edges with trace of dust-soiling; a couple of hinges just starting to split, but still sound for now; three pairs of endpapers glued together toward hinges, in one instance causing a small tear to front free endpaper; evidence of dog-earing throughout interiors of text blocks, with occasional thumbsoiling and spot-staining. Very good.
