Walter Hill. The Getaway - Second Draft Screenplay, Inscribed by the Screenwriter, Walter Hill. Inscribed in ink on the title page by Walter Hill: "Albert, An early effort. I was just learning to write scripts. It came out to be a pretty good film - and it did enough money that they made me a director. Best, Walter Hill."Screenplay based on Jim Thompson's novel, made into the classic 1972 film directed by Sam Peckinpah and starring Steve McQueen. Photocopied screenplay, brad-bound, in plain cream cardstock. 156 pages of 8.5 x 11-inch paper, printed recto only. Front cover torn at lower brad hole; a few instances of faint soiling and bumping to covers. Otherwise, a nice, clean copy. Unpublished screenplay for the first movie adaptation of any of Thompson's books.

Jim Thompson wrote an early version of the screenplay, but Steve McQueen objected to the downbeat ending and Thompson was eventually replaced by Walter Hill (who had worked previously with McQueen). This was only Hill's second screenplay, and three years later he began his career as a director and producer.
