    More Information: W. R. Burnett. High Sierra. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1940. First edition. Inscribed, "For Otto - / W. R. Burnett." Octavo. [8], 292, [2] pages. Publisher's full red-orange cloth; front and spine stamped in gray. Original illustrated dust jacket. Edges untrimmed; top edge trimmed and stained red. Very mild shelf wear at extremities of binding. Some minor wear and creasing at spine ends, joing and flap folds of jacket; spine panel slightly faded; a few speckles of soiling at verso of jacket at and near spine panel. Normal age tonint to edges and interior of text block; top edge a touch dusty. A fine copy of a novel that went on to be adapted into the 1941 film noir of the same name, written by Burnett and John Huston and starring Ida Lupino and Humphrey Bogart. With signed typewritten letter laid in, to Penzler from a California bookseller, discussing the signing of this copy and the bookseller's perceptions of Burnett himself.
