Publisher's light gray cloth, spine lettered in black, front board decoratively stamped in black; top edge of the text block trimmed, others untrimmed; plain endpapers; in the original dust jacket, priced $2.00. Board edges very faintly faded; base of the spine with a single minor wrinkle; upper corner of the rear board barely tapped. Top edge of the text block very lightly dusted; previous owner signature (a Palmer's, maiden or middle name, no relation assumed) with date purchased and address, all written in blue ink, three different stamps with her initials applied to the title-page. Dust jacket spine and rear panels faintly tanned; edges with some trivial wear; a couple light scuffs to the spine and front panels. Near fine. Basis for the 1934 film with Edna May Oliver (the dedicatee of this book) reprising her role as Hildegarde Withers. From the Otto Penzler Collection of Mystery Fiction.
